Two individuals lost their lives and multiple others sustained injuries following a tragic incident where a bus veered off the road and into a ditch along the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in the Jingatali area of Daudkandi today.
The deceased victims were identified as Faruk, a 42-year-old auto-rickshaw driver from Bahadurkhola village in Daudkandi upazila, and Mizanur Rahman, a 48-year-old passenger from Boalia village in Chuadanga Sadar upazila, according to police reports.
According to Officer-in-Charge (OC) Iqbal Bahar Majumder of Daudkandi Police Station, the accident occurred at approximately 3:50 pm when a bus operated by Econo Paribahan, heading towards Chattogram, lost control, collided with an auto-rickshaw, and subsequently went off the road into a nearby ditch as recounted by eyewitnesses.
Dr. Habibur Rahman, the health officer at Daudkandi Upazila Health Complex, mentioned that the bodies of the deceased have been brought to the facility. He further stated that five injured passengers were transferred to Dhaka for specialized medical care, while two others were treated at the facility and discharged.
OC Iqbal noted that a joint effort involving firefighters, law enforcement personnel, and local residents was initiated promptly to conduct a rescue mission following the tragic event. The driver of the bus and the assistant accompanying him fled the scene and are currently evading authorities.
