“Trump Blasts Minneapolis Mayor Over Immigration Laws”

Date:

US President Donald Trump criticized Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for his refusal to enforce federal immigration laws in the city. Trump expressed surprise at Frey’s statement, mentioning they had previously had a positive conversation after two Minneapolis residents were fatally shot by federal agents during immigration raids.

Trump took to his Truth Social platform to question the legality of Frey’s stance, warning that it constitutes a serious violation of the law and could lead to severe consequences. Following the shooting incidents in Minneapolis, Trump hinted at a potential de-escalation in the city, while a senior White House aide highlighted possible breaches of protocol by US immigration agents.

On the same day, Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar was targeted with a syringe of unknown liquid at a town hall meeting in Minneapolis, where she criticized the Trump administration’s immigration policies. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller stated that the administration is reviewing whether Customs and Border Protection agents involved in the shooting of a 37-year-old man failed to adhere to established guidelines.

According to a Department of Homeland Security report to Congress, two federal officers discharged their weapons during the incident. Trump, in an interview with Fox News, commented on the removal of Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino, labeling him as an extreme figure whose presence may have exacerbated the situation. He also dispatched a top US border security official to engage with local authorities in Minneapolis.

The ongoing tensions could potentially lead to a government shutdown, as Democrats push for major reforms in federal immigration operations under the Department of Homeland Security. They have threatened to block funding approval in the Senate as part of upcoming spending bills later this week.
