British Prime Minister Keir Starmer issued an apology to the victims of Jeffrey Epstein and expressed regret for appointing Peter Mandelson as the US ambassador, who had close ties to the deceased sex offender. Starmer admitted he was unaware of the extent of the relationship between Mandelson and Epstein when he named him to the position in December 2024.
While Starmer had previously mentioned his intention to disclose the vetting advice he received regarding Mandelson’s appointment, he disclosed that he was obligated to comply with a police directive not to release any information that could potentially impact an ongoing investigation.
In a separate development, the Kremlin dismissed inquiries regarding unfounded claims in Western media and from Poland’s leader suggesting Epstein might have had connections to Russian intelligence. The Kremlin stated it was uninterested in addressing such unverified allegations.
