UN Mission Finds Sudan Paramilitary Takeover Displays Genocide Characteristics

Date:

The United Nations’ independent fact-finding team investigating Sudan reported yesterday that the paramilitary takeover of El-Fasher displayed characteristics of genocide. The investigation determined that the Rapid Support Forces’ control of the Darfur city in October resulted in a three-day period of extreme terror and called for accountability for those involved. Chairman of the mission, Mohamad Chande Othman, stated that the operation’s magnitude, organization, and public approval by top RSF officials suggest that the atrocities in and around El-Fasher were not isolated incidents of warfare.
