“Uncertainty Surrounds Venezuela’s Compliance with US Demands”

Date:

US intelligence reports have cast uncertainty on whether interim Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez will comply with the Trump administration’s request to formally sever ties with US adversaries, according to sources familiar with the reports. Publicly, US officials have expressed the desire for Rodriguez to end relationships with key international allies such as Iran, China, and Russia, which includes expelling their diplomats and advisors from Venezuela.

Despite her inauguration ceremony being attended by representatives from these countries earlier this month, Rodriguez has not made any public announcement regarding this matter. She assumed the presidency after the US apprehended former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on January 3. Sources revealed that US intelligence reports suggest Rodriguez’s alignment with the US strategy in Venezuela remains uncertain.

In a separate development, Rodriguez announced on state TV that the US has begun releasing frozen Venezuelan assets as part of the sanctions relief. She stated, “We are unfreezing resources from Venezuela that rightfully belong to the Venezuelan people.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio was scheduled to caution Rodriguez that if she fails to adhere to US demands, she could face a fate similar to that of the ousted Venezuelan leader, Nicolas Maduro.
