The residents of Sirajganj are in a fortunate position as two of their representatives, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku (Sirajganj-2) and his nephew Dr. MA Muhit (Sirajganj-6), have been included in the newly established cabinet as a minister and a state minister respectively.
Iqbal Hasan, an experienced politician, has been assigned the role of minister for power, energy, and mineral resources, while Dr. Muhit, a first-time legislator, has been appointed as the state minister overseeing key areas such as health and family welfare, science and technology, and posts, telecommunications, and information technology.
In the past, Iqbal Hasan held the position of state minister for power and energy in the former BNP government between 2001 and 2006. Dr. Muhit, the son of Tasmina Mahmud, who is the elder sister of Iqbal Hasan, shares a strong family connection with his uncle. This familial bond has instilled confidence among local residents and political figures who believe that this uncle-nephew team will collaboratively drive progress and development in Sirajganj and nearby regions.
Rashidul Hasan Ranjan, the joint secretary of the Sirajganj district BNP unit, praised Iqbal Hasan’s extensive political experience and anticipates his enhanced effectiveness as a full cabinet minister this time around. He also highlighted the advantage of having both a minister and a state minister from the same family, emphasizing the seamless coordination they are expected to bring to development initiatives.
Local resident Shopon Das expressed optimism about the region’s prospects, noting that internal conflicts often impede development projects. However, with both leaders hailing from the same family, there is a positive outlook that progress in the area will proceed smoothly without hindrances.
