Winona Ryder is confirmed to make a special appearance in the upcoming Season 3 of the popular Netflix series “Wednesday,” reuniting with Jenna Ortega and director Tim Burton.
This casting decision brings together a mini Beetlejuice reunion, as Ortega previously portrayed Ryder’s on-screen daughter in the film. Burton, a long-time collaborator of Ryder, directed Beetlejuice and continues to be involved in “Wednesday” as a director and executive producer. The series creators, Al Gough and Miles Millar, also had a hand in writing Beetlejuice.
Burton expressed his excitement about Ryder joining the show, praising her as a close friend who seamlessly fits into the “Wednesday” universe.
The details of Ryder’s character in the upcoming season are being kept secret. This project marks her swift return to Netflix after completing her role in the final season of “Stranger Things,” a series she has been part of since 2016.
Gough and Millar commended Ryder’s iconic portrayal of unconventional characters and highlighted her fruitful collaboration with Burton, which has led to memorable roles in cinema. They eagerly welcomed her to Nevermore Academy.
Ryder is the latest addition to the Season 3 cast, following the announcement of Eva Green joining as Ophelia, Morticia Addams’ sister. Ryder, a two-time Oscar nominee for her roles in “The Age of Innocence” and “Little Women,” previously worked with Burton on “Edward Scissorhands” and “Frankenweenie.” Her television credits include “The Plot Against America” and “Show Me a Hero.”
Based on characters by Charles Addams, “Wednesday” features Jenna Ortega in the lead role, with a supporting cast including Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, and Joy Sunday. MGM Television produces the show, with Gough, Millar, and Burton serving as executive producers.
The second season of “Wednesday” was released in two parts in August and September 2025, becoming one of Netflix’s most-watched English-language series. The first season remains the platform’s most-viewed English-language TV season.
