Teenage cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been making waves in the cricket world during an impressive IPL season with Rajasthan Royals. Coach Kumar Sangakkara believes the 15-year-old is prepared to represent India.
Sooryavanshi’s outstanding performance of scoring 96 runs in the recent playoff match was not enough as Rajasthan Royals lost to Gujarat Titans. Despite the loss, Sooryavanshi has dominated the season, leading the batting chart with 776 runs at an impressive average of 48.50 and a striking rate of 237.30 in 16 matches.
Although he narrowly missed a century for the second consecutive time, Sooryavanshi showcased his talent with a brilliant 47-ball innings, including eight fours and seven sixes in New Chandigarh.
Sangakkara praised Sooryavanshi’s maturity and ability to handle pressure, stating that he is more than capable of facing any challenge. The coach expressed confidence that Sooryavanshi will soon receive a call-up to the Indian team.
During the match, Sooryavanshi anchored the innings after Rajasthan lost early wickets and reached his fifty off 31 balls, his slowest in the IPL. He accelerated his scoring, hitting a six off Jason Holder before falling to Kagiso Rabada with a mis-hit to deep third man.
Sangakkara commended Sooryavanshi’s season and emphasized the importance of maintaining his fearless attitude and continuous growth. Sooryavanshi, who joined Rajasthan at the age of 13, has shown exceptional talent since his debut year in 2025 when he scored a century off 35 balls at just 14 years old.
Gujarat’s director of cricket, Vikram Solanki, lauded Sooryavanshi’s talent, describing him as one of the best batters in the T20 format. Solanki praised Sooryavanshi’s unique batting style, hand speed, and predicted that he would pose a significant challenge to future opponents.
