A light earthquake shook Sylhet city and the surrounding areas in the district at 5:32 pm this afternoon. The Seismic Observatory Centre of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department reported that the tremor measured 4 on the Richter Scale, originating in Sylhet’s Gowainghat upazila.
The epicenter was located near the Dauki Fault Line, a significant fault running alongside the southern border of the Shillong Plateau. Farjana Sultana, assistant meteorologist at the Observatory Centre, disseminated the earthquake report, which was later verified by Shah Md Sajib Hossain, assistant meteorologist at the Sylhet Met Office.
Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of any damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake.
