“Buddhist Monks’ 2,300-Mile ‘Walk for Peace’ Arrives in DC”

Date:

Twenty-four Buddhist monks, clad in burnt-orange robes, made their way to Washington, DC, on Tuesday as part of a 2,300-mile “Walk for Peace”. This spiritual expedition spans nine states and has garnered support from large crowds along the route.

“There is a strong demand for this,” expressed Joan Donoghue, a 59-year-old resident of Silver Spring, Maryland, who joined four friends to witness the monks’ arrival. “I attended the event in Virginia on Sunday, where I engaged with numerous individuals. The prevailing sentiment was that our nation is in need of this initiative. The consensus was that in a time of division, people are yearning for increased kindness, compassion, and peace.”

The monks embarked on their journey in Texas over three months ago, enduring harsh winter conditions, sometimes walking barefoot, to promote “awareness of peace, loving kindness, and compassion in America and worldwide.”
