“Dhaka Police Enforce Vehicle Restrictions for Eid Travel”

Date:

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has implemented restrictions on the movement of specific vehicles, such as trucks, covered vans, and lorries, on highways between March 17 and March 23. The decision, as conveyed by DMP Acting Commissioner Md Sarwar in a notice issued recently, aims to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic for individuals departing Dhaka before Eid-ul-Fitr. However, vehicles transporting essential items like food, perishable goods, garments, medicine, fertiliser, and fuel are exempt from this restriction.

Additionally, the public notice advises city vehicles to avoid certain key routes unless absolutely necessary during this period. These routes include Dhaka–Mymensingh highway (Kuril to Abdullahpur), Dhaka–Chattogram highway (Gulistan to Signboard), Dhaka–Aricha highway, Mirpur Road (Aarong Crossing to Aminbazar), Dhaka–Keraniganj road (Fulbaria–Tatibazar–Babubazar Bridge), Dhaka–Mawa highway (Gulistan to Buriganga Bridge), Mohammadpur Bosila Crossing to Bosila Bridge, Abdullahpur to Dhaur Bridge, and Fulbaria to Sadarghat launch terminal.

Transport operators and workers have been directed to commence bus services from terminals, refrain from overcharging passengers, drive responsibly, and ensure they possess valid licenses and well-maintained vehicles.

For the safety of passengers and pedestrians, it is recommended to utilize designated terminals, secure personal belongings, refrain from consuming food offered by strangers, and utilize footbridges or zebra crossings when crossing roads. In case of emergencies, travelers can reach out to police control rooms at terminals or contact the national emergency service number 999, as advised by the DMP acting commissioner.
