“Security Heightened in Rohingya Camps for 13th National Election”

Date:

Security measures have been heightened in and around Rohingya camps and throughout the broader Cox’s Bazar region in anticipation of the upcoming 13th national election, according to Lieutenant Colonel Tanveer Ahmed from the Army’s Ramu 10 Infantry Division.

During a briefing in Cox’s Bazar yesterday, Tanveer mentioned that additional security protocols have been implemented both inside and around the camps to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

The army, in collaboration with the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) and other law enforcement bodies, is actively monitoring the Rohingya camps. Tanveer emphasized the importance of maintaining a strict watch to prevent any potential disruptions by the Rohingyas during the election.

Lieutenant Colonel Sutapa Jaman, in a written statement, reported that a joint search operation was conducted on February 8 in the Balukhali area of Ukhiya upazila based on intelligence. The operation, carried out by a specialized army task force in coordination with the police and upazila administration, led to the detention of 784 Rohingyas, comprising 211 men, 196 women, 197 children, and 180 elderly individuals. Additionally, 20 Bangladeshi homeowners were apprehended on suspicions of providing illegal shelter to Rohingyas.
