“Bangladesh Urges Fuel Efficiency Amid Supply Challenges”

Date:

The Minister of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, has called on the public to use fuel efficiently, ensuring that the government is distributing 25% more fuel than the previous year. Addressing reporters today, the minister emphasized the importance of not panicking, stating that there is an ample fuel supply that continues to be provided.

He mentioned that Bangladesh is procuring fuel at higher prices from the spot market but maintaining stable prices domestically to support the populace. Emphasizing the need for cooperation, the minister urged citizens to be patient, use fuel judiciously, and assured that shortages can be avoided if everyone plays their part.

Dismissing alarmist claims of widespread pump closures in the media, Tuku clarified that while a few petrol stations temporarily shut down recently, they have since resumed operations. He highlighted the fluctuating stock levels due to ongoing supplies and reiterated the continuous distribution of fuel across the country.

Acknowledging the global fuel import challenges through the Strait of Hormuz, the minister highlighted that this issue is affecting nations worldwide. Despite the difficulties, he affirmed that Bangladesh has not raised fuel prices and continues to provide subsidies for fuel. In light of these circumstances, he urged vehicle owners to adopt fuel-efficient practices for cars and motorcycles.
