Meta has rolled out a fresh feature on Instagram that now allows users to easily pause videos on Reels with a single tap, bringing a significant modification to the platform’s existing interface functionalities.
This enhancement arrives half a decade after the introduction of the short-form video feature. Previously, users were only able to pause a Reel by pressing and holding a finger on the screen, with playback resuming upon releasing the touch.
The new “tap-to-pause” feature grants users the ability to halt playback with a simple tap, granting them more control over how they engage with content. Moreover, when a video is paused, users are presented with extra options, such as the ability to mute the audio.
This development was officially confirmed by Instagram’s chief, Adam Mosseri, who made the announcement on his verified account.
