Riad Mahmud Chowdhury has assumed the role of managing director (MD) at Standard Islami Bank PLC. Prior to this, he served as the deputy managing director and head of corporate banking at Eastern Bank PLC, as per an official statement.
Chowdhury embarked on his banking journey in 2000 as a senior officer at IFIC Bank PLC. He later transitioned to AB Bank PLC before joining Eastern Bank PLC in 2004.
With over 26 years of experience in the banking sector, Riad Mahmud has excelled in managing extensive corporate portfolios and non-performing loans. He has also played a pivotal role in developing specialized Islamic banking frameworks and implementing digital solutions for cross-border trade.
His exceptional strategic acumen, strong leadership skills, profound banking expertise, and innovative approach have consistently propelled him to success throughout his career. He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in finance from the University of Dhaka, and furthered his education with an MBA in finance from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at the same university.
Additionally, Chowdhury possesses internationally recognized certifications in commercial credit analysis from Moody’s and Omega Corporation in the United Kingdom (UK).
