The Leader of the Opposition in Bangladesh’s Parliament and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Shafiqur Rahman, has urged an immediate halt to the ongoing war, emphasizing the need for all parties to pursue peaceful resolutions due to the adverse effects on the country’s economy and daily life.
In a recent statement on his official Facebook page, Rahman pointed out the significant impact of the escalating conflict involving Iran on the global economy, causing repercussions that are already being felt in Bangladesh. He highlighted the consequences of fuel shortages, resulting in long queues, price hikes, and a slowdown in industrial operations, while emphasizing the anxieties faced by ordinary families about their future.
With the country set to resume full activities after the Eid holidays on March 29, Rahman underscored the looming crisis that poses threats to transportation systems, industries, agriculture, and the livelihoods of millions of Bangladeshis. Stressing the urgency of the situation, he called upon all political factions to prioritize the well-being of the populace over partisan interests.
Rahman emphasized the importance of unity in the face of adversity, stating that the people, who have placed their trust in political leaders, deserve better during these challenging times. He urged political parties to set aside their differences and collaborate for the greater good, asserting that national crises should transcend political divides. The Ameer highlighted the need for leaders to come together, transcending party lines, to safeguard the population and stabilize the economy, emphasizing the common ground that unites all Bangladeshis in times of crisis.
