Construction work has commenced on the cricket stadium designated for the 2028 Los Angeles Games, marking the sport’s return to the Olympics after a hiatus of 128 years, as confirmed by the International Cricket Council on Wednesday. The temporary facility, situated at the Fairgrounds in Pomona, Southern California, will serve as the battleground for the men’s and women’s events, with six teams competing in the popular 20-overs format.
Expressing enthusiasm for this development, ICC Chairman Jay Shah emphasized the organization’s commitment to expanding cricket’s reach and embracing its inclusion in the Olympic movement as a source of pride and aspiration. In addition to the Olympic events, the stadium is set to host three Major League Cricket (MLC) matches from July 1 to 5 this year, as announced by the ICC.
