In a statement today, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed announced the party’s intention to request India to extradite former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh for trial.
Ahmed emphasized the party’s plan to formally seek Hasina’s extradition through legal channels, noting that it falls within the purview of the foreign ministries of both Bangladesh and India. Addressing reporters outside the BNP office in Gulshan, Dhaka, at 3:00 pm, he stated their intent to urge the Indian government to repatriate Hasina for judicial proceedings.
Commenting on the recent election, the BNP leader highlighted the nation’s participation in a comprehensive poll, affirming the people’s expression of their will through a widespread movement.
Ahmed, who emerged as the unofficial victor in the Cox’s Bazar-1 constituency, underscored the groundwork being laid for a fortified democratic system.
He outlined the party’s vision for democratic advancement, emphasizing forthcoming reforms in state institutions and constitutional amendments as outlined in the 31-point manifesto.
Furthermore, Ahmed referenced the July National Charter as a symbol of political consensus among stakeholders, underscoring its significance and commitment to implementation.
Anticipating a proactive legislative body, he projected the upcoming parliament to be highly productive in enacting laws post-independence. Ahmed stressed that constitutional changes would align with public desires, the sacrifices made by past generations, and the aspirations of the youth.
Calling on the Election Commission to expedite formalities, he expressed optimism for the prompt declaration of results via official gazette notification by afternoon.
Upon this announcement, Ahmed noted the impending oath-taking by parliament members in adherence to constitutional procedures, marking the initiation of the subsequent processes.
