NCP Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam criticized the BNP government for manipulating the constitution for their own benefit, similar to the conduct of the Awami League in the past. Speaking at an NCP meeting in Narayanganj, Nahid emphasized the need for a constitutional reform council and the implementation of referendum results, pointing out that the ruling party is disregarding the will of the people.
He highlighted the inconsistency of the ruling party in upholding the constitution based on their interests and condemned the same behavior exhibited by the Awami League in the past. Nahid expressed concerns about the current government following the footsteps of the AL by taking control of parliament and politicizing the constitution.
Warning about potential public backlash, Nahid questioned if the NCP was prepared for such a scenario and urged party members to persist in their efforts for reforms, justice, and anti-corruption measures. He called for a unified political movement and stressed the importance of maintaining a strong connection with the public.
Nahid underscored the significance of continuing the struggle both within parliament and on the streets, emphasizing the party’s roots in street activism. He urged party members to engage actively in the upcoming local government elections to achieve positive outcomes.
