Mumbai Indians’ Bowlers Under Scrutiny

Date:

Mumbai Indians’ bowlers faced scrutiny after failing to defend their highest first-innings total in the ongoing Indian Premier League match. However, team captain Hardik Pandya avoided singling them out for criticism, emphasizing that the entire team shares accountability.

The five-time champions are struggling this season, currently placed ninth in the standings out of ten teams, with only two wins from eight matches. Despite their strong bowling lineup led by Jasprit Bumrah, the team has struggled in the IPL, where conditions heavily favor batsmen.

In the recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians posted a formidable score of 243-5. Unfortunately, the visitors comfortably chased down the target, securing a six-wicket victory with eight balls to spare.

Bumrah, considered one of the top fast bowlers globally, had another tough outing, remaining wicketless and conceding 54 runs in his four overs. He has only managed to take two wickets in eight matches so far.

During the post-match presentation, Pandya acknowledged that the team collectively fell short of their usual standards, stating, “I won’t put my bowlers under the bus. I think as an overall unit, we have not been able to do what exactly Mumbai Indians stand for.”

With Mumbai Indians having utilized 22 players this season, more than any other team, Pandya expressed that a change in luck could potentially turn their fortunes around. “It’s been that kind of season. When you get a couple of chances, you grab them, that’s when luck and momentum change,” he remarked.

Despite the challenges faced, Pandya commended the team’s efforts, saying, “If you don’t, it kind of hurts you, but it’s still fine, all the boys tried really well.”
