“Iran Confirmed for World Cup Matches in US”

Date:

FIFA president Gianni Infantino assured AFP on Tuesday that Iran will participate in the upcoming World Cup, with their group matches set to take place in the United States as originally planned, despite the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Infantino expressed his confidence in Iran’s participation during the halftime of their friendly match against Costa Rica in Turkey, emphasizing the team’s strength and his satisfaction with their performance.

Reaffirming Iran’s presence, Infantino stated that the matches will proceed as scheduled based on the draw. The highly anticipated World Cup, jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, is slated to commence on June 11.

Iran is scheduled to kick off their Group G campaign against New Zealand in Los Angeles on June 15, followed by matches against Belgium on June 21 and Egypt on June 27, both also in Los Angeles and Seattle, respectively.

Despite initial uncertainties due to the conflict involving the US and Israel, Iran had considered relocating their matches to Mexico. However, FIFA’s commitment to ensuring all teams participate as planned led to the decision to keep the matches in the US.

Iran’s national team has received mixed messages regarding their participation from US President Donald Trump, yet Infantino’s assurance of their inclusion stands firm. The team also paid tribute to victims of a recent tragedy in Iran during a friendly match against Nigeria in Belek, Turkey.

In conclusion, Iran’s presence at the World Cup remains secured, and preparations are underway for their matches in the United States as part of the prestigious tournament.
