LinkedIn CEO Ryan Roslansky Steps Down; COO Dan Shapero Takes Over

Date:

Ryan Roslansky has resigned as CEO of LinkedIn after leading the prominent professional networking platform for six years. Dan Shapero, the current chief operating officer, has assumed the position immediately.

Roslansky joined LinkedIn in 2009 as one of Jeff Weiner’s initial hires and held various roles within the company for over a decade. He took on the role of CEO in June 2020 amid labor market disruptions caused by the pandemic.

During his tenure, Roslansky oversaw significant growth, with LinkedIn’s membership increasing from 700 million to 1.3 billion, and revenue surging from approximately $8 billion to over $17 billion. The platform also underwent a notable transformation from a job board and professional directory to a social network where executives share personal insights and career advice.

Aside from his role at LinkedIn, Roslansky is an executive vice president at Microsoft, LinkedIn’s parent company. He mentioned in a post that his responsibilities at Microsoft are expanding, and Shapero will now report directly to him. This transition signifies a shift in operational leadership rather than a complete departure from the company.

Shapero, who previously served as LinkedIn’s COO, now faces the challenge of leading the platform through a period of uncertainty in the job market. This uncertainty includes a 20% decrease in hiring since 2022 and ongoing concerns about the impact of artificial intelligence on employment trends.
