“Finance Minister Confident in Gov’t Revenue Goal”

The Finance Minister, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, expressed confidence in the government’s ability to achieve its revenue collection goal for the current fiscal year, citing the National Board of Revenue’s (NBR) preparedness during a recent statement.

Following meetings with the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association and the Saudi Arabia-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry at the NBR headquarters in Agargaon, the Minister assured reporters that revenue collection was on track and that the NBR was fully committed to reaching the set target.

While no new tax measures were announced, the Minister emphasized his trust in the revenue authorities’ readiness to meet the ambitious budget target. Despite falling short of last fiscal year’s target by approximately Tk 88,000 crore, the government has set the NBR’s revenue collection goal at Tk 6.04 lakh crore for the ongoing fiscal year.

In response to inquiries, the Minister highlighted the government’s dedication to supporting industries through ongoing dialogues with the private sector. He emphasized the importance of strong industrial performance for economic stability, growth, and job creation.

The Minister acknowledged the government’s efforts in addressing industry concerns and assured continued discussions to resolve any outstanding issues. Additionally, he mentioned the government’s exploration of alternative financing sources and opportunities for business expansion and skills enhancement in collaboration with Saudi Arabia.

Accompanying the Minister at the press briefing were Finance Secretary Khairuzzaman Mozumder and acting NBR chairman Ahsan Habib.
