Fatal Traffic Accidents Claim Five Lives in Bangladesh

Five individuals lost their lives, and 12 others sustained injuries in traffic accidents spanning three districts within the past 48 hours, as per reports from our field reporters.

In Cumilla, a tragic incident unfolded yesterday as a passenger bus veered off the Dhaka–Chattogram highway in Daudkandi, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuring seven. The mishap transpired near 3:50 pm in the Jingatali region when an Econo Paribahan bus en route to Chattogram collided with an auto‑rickshaw, careened off the road due to a loss of control, stated Officer‑in‑Charge Iqbal Bahar Majumder of Daudkandi Highway Police Station. The deceased were identified as Faruk, a 42‑year‑old auto‑rickshaw driver from Bahadurkhola village in Daudkandi, and Mizanur Rahman, a 48‑year‑old bus passenger from Chuadanga Sadar upazila. Dr. Habibur Rahman of Daudkandi Upazila Health Complex mentioned that five injured passengers were transferred to Dhaka, while two received initial treatment. The bus driver and assistant absconded from the scene, as confirmed by the police.

Meanwhile, in Tangail, a fatal head‑on collision between a private car and a battery‑run rickshaw‑van on the Dhaka–Tangail–Jamuna Bridge highway in Kalihati upazila claimed the lives of two individuals yesterday. Sharif Uddin, 41, was pronounced dead at Tangail General Hospital, and rickshaw‑van driver Mohammad Amir Ali, 40, succumbed to his injuries en route to Dhaka, reported Sub‑Inspector Shariful Islam of Jamuna Bridge East Police Station.

In Kishoreganj, Constable Nazrul Islam, aged 52, lost his life, and five others, including three policemen, sustained injuries following a head‑on collision between a CNG‑run auto‑rickshaw ferrying police personnel and a bus in Padorgati area of Hossainpur upazila on Saturday, detailed OC Muhammad Rashedul Islam of Hossainpur Police Station. Nazrul was journeying back to the police station with a detainee when the tragic accident transpired. The detainee and the auto‑rickshaw operator were among the injured in the collision.
