Transcom Group Executives Acquitted in Fraud Case

Date:

Transcom Group’s Chairman, Shahnaz Rahman, and CEO Simeen Rahman, along with four others, were acquitted from a fraud case brought by the CEO’s sister. This marks the clearance of Simeen, Shahnaz, and other key officials of Transcom Group from a total of four cases.

The discharge order was issued by Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman after two discharge petitions were filed by the defense, as stated by Simeen’s lawyer, Mohammad Siddique Ullah Miah. The court’s decision mentioned that the accused were discharged due to lack of evidence to support framing charges against them.

The other individuals implicated in the case are Transcom Group’s top officials, Kamrul Hassan, Mohammad Mosaddaque, and Abu Yusuf Md Siddik, along with stamp vendor Shamsuzzaman Patwari.

Advocate Siddique highlighted that during the recent hearing, it was revealed that the investigator failed to provide specific evidence in the charge sheet. He further mentioned that steps would be taken to pursue departmental action against the officer responsible for submitting a purportedly false charge sheet.

The cases were initiated by Shahzreh Huq, who filed the complaint with Gulshan Police Station on February 22, 2024. Following an investigation, PBI Inspector Syed Sajedur Rahman submitted the charge sheet on January 11 of the same year, naming six individuals, including Simeen.

In the recent court proceedings, defense attorneys argued that in the share transfer forgery case, the charge sheet was filed without recovering the necessary documents or conducting expert examinations. The court found that the stamps used as evidence were printed after the shares in question had already been transferred and accepted by the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms in a previous year.

The article also details the background of the disputes within the family regarding the management and ownership of Transcom Limited following the death of Latifur Rahman, the company’s founding chairman and CEO. It mentions the distribution of shares among family members and the subsequent legal battles that ensued.

Overall, the recent developments have brought relief to the individuals involved, putting an end to the legal troubles they had been facing.
