A dominant batting performance, led by three explosive half-centuries, paved the way for Sunrisers Hyderabad’s commanding 55-run win over Royal Challengers Bangalore. Despite the victory, Sunrisers Hyderabad fell short of securing a top-two finish, as both teams concluded their league matches with 18 points each.
Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Heinrich Klaasen continued their impressive form on a batting-friendly pitch at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, propelling the home team to a formidable total of 255-4 after opting to bat first.
Royal Challengers Bangalore needed to chase down a minimum of 166 runs to ensure a superior net run rate than Hyderabad even in case of a loss, and they successfully achieved the target, finishing at 200-4 with clinical efficiency.
Despite the loss, Bangalore topped the table with a net run rate of 0.783, followed by Gujarat Titans at 0.695, both teams accumulating 18 points each, while Hyderabad settled in the third position.
Expressing his satisfaction, Ishan Kishan, who won the man-of-the-match award for the third time this season, stated, “I’m just happy about it, taking it one game at a time.”
Bangalore showed determination in their pursuit of the challenging total, with the opening pair of Venkatesh Iyer and Virat Kohli setting a rapid pace with a 60-run partnership in just 27 deliveries. Despite the efforts, wickets fell at crucial junctures, and Bangalore shifted their focus to reaching the required 166 runs target.
Hyderabad’s bowlers effectively utilized variations in pace, while Bangalore faced consequences for their one-dimensional approach earlier in the game. The partnership between Kishan and Klaasen, amassing a blazing 113 runs off 48 balls for the third wicket, highlighted Hyderabad’s stellar batting display.
Abhishek Sharma’s fifty laid a solid foundation for Kishan and Klaasen to unleash their power-hitting skills. Kishan’s consistent form against Bangalore continued, with Klaasen also making a significant impact by surpassing the 600-run mark for the season in a thrilling display of high-quality cricket.
