India’s Ministry of External Affairs has advised its citizens to depart from Iran amidst concerns over a potential US strike on Tehran. The Indian Embassy in Tehran conveyed the message via social media, urging Indian nationals in Iran to leave using available transportation options, such as commercial flights.
Approximately 10,000 Indian citizens are typically residing in Iran, according to the Indian foreign ministry. The advisory emphasized that all Indian citizens and People of Indian Origin (PIOs) should exercise caution, steer clear of protest areas, keep in touch with the Indian Embassy in Iran, and stay updated on local news for any unfolding events.
This cautionary recommendation precedes Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled trip to Israel on Wednesday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed Modi’s visit, anticipating the formation of a new partnership to counter perceived “radical” adversaries.
Modi’s upcoming visit to Israel marks a significant moment in bilateral relations, with Netanyahu reciprocating Modi’s 2017 visit to Israel with his own trip to India the following year. Modi expressed enthusiasm for the forthcoming discussions during his visit, highlighting the enduring friendship between India and Israel based on trust, innovation, and a shared commitment to peace and progress.
India has bolstered collaboration with Israel in various sectors, including defense, agriculture, technology, and security. Simultaneously, India maintains robust ties with Gulf nations and Tehran, actively participating in the development of Iran’s Chabahar port, which serves as a crucial trade route to Afghanistan. This strategic involvement aligns with India’s efforts to engage with authorities in Afghanistan, including the Taliban, fostering diplomatic relationships in the region.
