Universal Pictures Secures Rights for Bon Jovi Biopic

Date:

A movie adaptation revolving around the legendary rock band Bon Jovi is presently in the works at Universal Pictures. The studio clinched the project after a competitive selection process and will support the forthcoming biopic centered on the band renowned for chart-toppers like “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “You Give Love a Bad Name,” and “It’s My Life.” The script is currently being crafted by Cody Brotter, known for his work on the upcoming thriller “Killing Satoshi,” featuring Pete Davidson and Casey Affleck.

As of now, a director has not been assigned to the film, and the casting choices for the band members are yet to be disclosed. Bon Jovi, established in 1983, initially comprised singer Jon Bon Jovi, keyboardist David Bryan, and drummer Tico Torres, all of whom continue to be core members. The band has seen changes over the years, with guitarist Richie Sambora departing in 2013 and bassist Alec John Such leaving in 1994 and passing away in 2022.

Having been honored in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the focus of the film on a specific era of the band’s journey is still uncertain. The production will be overseen by Kevin J Walsh and Gotham Chopra from Religion of Sports, with Jacqueline Garell managing development for Universal Pictures.

In recent times, music biopics have reaped significant box office triumphs with creations like “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Elvis,” and “Bob Marley: One Love.” Nonetheless, not all ventures in this genre have resonated as strongly, with projects like “Back to Black” receiving a lukewarm reception. Other music-inspired films are also in the pipeline, such as “Michael,” slated for release next year, and filmmaker Sam Mendes is actively engaged in developing a series of four interconnected movies centered around The Beatles.
