The South Asian Football Federation is contemplating rescheduling the SAFF Championship to November, with Dhaka likely to remain the host city, as stated by Purushottam Kattel, the general secretary of SAFF.
Initially planned for September-October in Dhaka, the Championship may now be moved to November, tentatively set from November 4 to 17, following India’s expressed interest in participating in the ASEAN Cup, Kattel informed reporters during a press briefing before the SAFF Women’s Championship semifinal between Bangladesh and Nepal at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa.
Kattel mentioned that the regional organization is also looking into the option of holding the tournament at two different venues, although a final decision has not yet been made.
“We are contemplating the idea of hosting the championship at two venues, but nothing has been confirmed as of now,” he stated.
Furthermore, the SAFF chief disclosed plans to introduce the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system for the first time in the tournament’s history, labeling it as a “forward-thinking initiative,” despite no SAFF member nation currently utilizing the expensive technology in their domestic leagues.
Kattel also mentioned that SAFF is targeting to conduct the draw for the seven-team tournament later this month.
