The recently unveiled preview for “Bonolota Express,” helmed by Tanim Noor and inspired by Humayun Ahmed’s book ‘Kichukkhon,’ provides a glimpse into a movie centered on intertwined lives during a singular train voyage.
Unveiled on social platforms at 8pm on March 12, the 1-minute 21-second teaser commences at Kamalapur Railway Station before transitioning inside the carriages of the Bonolota Express locomotive. Shortly after its debut, the clip surged into Bangladesh’s top 10 trending videos, indicating early interest among audiences.
Rather than disclosing the complete plot, the preview introduces a diverse array of passengers journeying on the same train, each with their unique circumstances. Noteworthy characters include Dr. Ashhab, accompanied by his mentally fragile mother; Chitra, a young woman embarking on a solo expedition; Rashid Uddin, an unconventional traveler; and Education Minister Abul Khayer Khan.
As the train progresses, these individuals gradually become entangled in a common unfolding scenario.
The film boasts an extensive ensemble cast featuring Chanchal Chowdhury, Mosharraf Karim, Azmeri Haque Badhan, Zakia Bari Mamo, Sabila Nur, Intekhab Dinar, Sariful Islam Razz, Shamima Nazneen, Shamol Mawla, Tridha Paul, Maan Labonno Chowdhury, Tamim Kareem, and Sifat Rahman.
Director Tanim Noor, recognized for his previous work “Utshob” known for its ensemble storytelling, appears to adopt a similar approach in this project. Rather than centering on a sole protagonist, the movie seems to weave its narrative through multiple interconnected characters sharing a common voyage.
The majority of the drama unfolds within the train’s confines. Passengers from diverse social and personal backgrounds coexist in the same limited space — a physician with his troubled mother, a lone female traveler, a clergyman and his expectant wife, an eccentric intellectual, and a prominent minister.
As the journey progresses, a predicament within one of the compartments starts linking these distinct lives.
Humayun Ahmed’s original tale portrays the train as a miniature, transient society where authority, vulnerability, and compassion frequently collide within a brief timeframe. The teaser hints that the film will draw upon this dynamic.
Visually, the preview accentuates ambiance over grandeur. Dimly illuminated interiors, intimate interactions among passengers, and fleeting moments of tension suggest a movie primarily propelled by character development and dialogue.
The script and dialogues are crafted by Samiul Bhuiyan and Ayman Asib Shadin, with cinematography by Barkat Hossain Polash. Editing is overseen by Saleh Sobhan Auneem, and the musical score is composed by Sayba Talukdar.
The production is a collaboration between Hoichoi Studios, Buriganga Talkies, and Dope Productions.
While the trailer sets the stage and introduces its characters, several elements of the storyline remain undisclosed. The primary conflict and the narrative’s ultimate trajectory remain ambiguous.
“Bonolota Express” is slated for a nationwide cinematic premiere during Eid-ul-Fitr 2026.
