Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir assured today that measures would be taken to curb mob justice. Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on his first day of work following the government’s establishment, he emphasized the need to address the prevailing law and order issues.
Acknowledging the recent turbulent period marked by significant social movements, Fakhrul highlighted the ongoing efforts to restore stability. He stressed the importance of patience in rectifying the situation, given the magnitude of recent events.
Fakhrul pledged prompt actions to facilitate upcoming local government elections and downplayed the necessity of a white paper on the interim government’s performance, citing their successful completion of key tasks during a critical period.
Regarding concerns about the inclusivity of recent elections without the Awami League, Fakhrul reiterated widespread domestic and international acceptance of the election’s fairness. He assured that decisions concerning the Awami League’s status would be communicated following internal deliberations.
Addressing criticisms on the country’s law and order, economy, and foreign policy, Fakhrul defended the government’s performance, noting improvements in law enforcement, economic stability, and banking sector regulation. He expressed confidence in further enhancements through collaborative initiatives.
When asked about the government’s primary challenges, Fakhrul emphasized the collective endeavor to advance the nation, underscoring the pivotal role of democracy in shaping future endeavors. He stressed the government’s commitment to upholding democratic principles in all endeavors and expressed optimism about enhancing the ministry’s operational effectiveness.
