Bangladesh’s national women’s cricket team faced a significant setback as they suffered a heavy 68-run loss in their initial warm-up game of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at Loughborough University over the weekend.

Having been put to bat first, New Zealand achieved a formidable total of 193 for three in 20 overs, led by skipper Amelia Kerr, who scored an unbeaten 51 off 28 deliveries. Izzy Sharp and Suzie Bates also contributed significantly with 46 and 45 runs respectively.

Ritu Moni managed to take 2-36 for Bangladesh, while Nahida Akter secured one wicket during New Zealand’s innings.

In response, Bangladesh struggled to put up a fight, with only Nigar Sultana Joty (scoring 32 off 33 not out) and Juairiya Ferdous (26 off 15) making noteworthy contributions. The team was limited to 125 for eight in their allotted 20 overs.

Off-spinner Nensi Patel shone with the ball, claiming 4-18 in three overs.

Next, Bangladesh is scheduled to face Ireland in their second warm-up match on June 9. The team is positioned in Group A alongside India, Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, and the Netherlands for the T20 World Cup. Their campaign will kick off against the Netherlands on June 14 in Birmingham.
