Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir urged egg traders to avoid excessive profits, artificial shortages, and disruptions in the market. He emphasized the importance of maintaining stable egg prices to protect consumers, particularly those with lower incomes. The minister highlighted the need to identify and address any abnormal costs or inflated profits along the supply chain.
During a meeting in Dhaka, the minister stressed the significance of cooperation among all stakeholders, including producers, wholesalers, and retailers, to enhance market transparency and efficiency. Business representatives revealed that the cost of producing an egg has increased due to rising prices of poultry-feed ingredients. They noted a significant price difference between production costs and selling prices, with prices fluctuating throughout the year.
To mitigate price fluctuations, the representatives suggested implementing a storage system for surplus eggs and addressing tax burdens and transportation obstacles. The minister reiterated the importance of ensuring fair pricing and stable supply of eggs for consumers’ benefit.
