“Bangladesh’s Middle-Order Woes Lead to T20I Loss”

Date:

The Bangladesh pace-bowling coach, Talha Jubair, acknowledged that a lack of middle-order partnerships following quick dismissals led to a below-par total, resulting in a four-wicket loss to Australia in the first T20I at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram.

Despite a promising start with the bat, Bangladesh faltered as Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Saif Hassan departed due to loose shots on a challenging wicket. While the powerplay yielded 52 runs but lost two wickets, a collapse followed with the team losing five wickets for 34 runs in just 34 deliveries.

Adam Zampa and Joel Davies took advantage of this phase, dismantling the innings by dismissing Tawhid Hridoy, Soumya Sarkar, and Parvez Hossain Emon.

“We rushed our innings a bit. Although we had a good start, we couldn’t capitalize on it,” remarked Talha Jubair during the post-match press conference.

“If we had built partnerships of 30-40 runs, we could have stabilized the innings. Despite knowing it wasn’t a high-scoring pitch, the batters got carried away after the positive start.”

Bangladesh’s batsmen failed to adjust to the windy conditions, which Australia exploited effectively. Soumya and Emon attempted big shots but couldn’t clear the boundary, falling for 17 and 10, respectively.

“The shot Emon played would have been a six without the wind affecting it, but unfortunately, it didn’t clear the field,” Jubair highlighted.

“We fell into their trap. They wanted us to play against the wind and mistime our shots. Sensible batting was crucial, but we lost wickets in quick succession.”

Despite Mahedi Hasan’s unbeaten 29 off 22 balls, Bangladesh were bowled out for 131 in 19 overs, regretting not utilizing their full quota of overs.

Australian debutant Davies, who claimed three wickets alongside Zampa, revealed they had a strategic plan in place.

“With the wind favoring the longer boundary, Mitchell [Marsh] suggested making them play into it. I managed to pick up two wickets from that tactic, so it worked well,” Davies explained.
