Facebook and Messenger services started to come back online for users in Bangladesh at approximately 8:19 pm on Friday, following a worldwide outage that impacted several platforms owned by Meta. Some users were able to access both the web and mobile versions of Facebook and Messenger, although issues like slow loading, timeline refresh failures, and messaging delays persisted.
The disruption was initially noticed around 7:34 pm Bangladesh time, with users encountering error messages when trying to log in to Facebook on desktops. Some users faced a situation where the app version remained stuck on previously loaded pages, while Messenger users were logged out unexpectedly.
While early indications suggested that Meta’s other platforms were functioning normally, disruptions were later reported affecting Instagram, Threads, and certain WhatsApp services. Many users were able to use WhatsApp’s mobile app, although some encountered difficulties with the web version.
Meta representative Andy Stone acknowledged the problem in a post on X, stating that the company was aware of the access issues users were facing and was actively working to fix them. The cause of the outage has not been disclosed by Meta at this time.
During the outage, Downdetector also experienced temporary issues as users flocked to check the status of Meta’s platforms. Subsequently, reports started to decrease as some services recovered, but access remained inconsistent for many users.
By 10:07 pm Bangladesh time, Facebook and Messenger seemed to be gradually recovering rather than fully operational. Meta has not provided a timeline for when all services will be completely restored.
