Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku emphasized the importance of embracing Bangla as the mother tongue in Bangladesh. He stated that slogans like “Inquilab Zindabad” would not be relevant if Bangla is truly honored. According to the minister, “Inquilab Zindabad” does not align with the essence of the Bangla language and is associated with those who once opposed the recognition of Bangla as the mother tongue.
Minister Tuku conveyed these thoughts while attending a discussion and cultural event organized by the Sirajganj district administration at the Shilpakala Academy auditorium in commemoration of Language Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day. He highlighted the significance of understanding and cherishing the history of the Bangla language, emphasizing that a nation ignorant of its own past cannot progress.
Expressing concern over the lack of deep appreciation for Bangla among the populace, Minister Tuku noted that a stronger sense of nationalism could have been fostered if the language had been revered. He lamented the chanting of “Inquilab Zindabad” by the younger generation, stating it saddened him to hear such slogans due to their detachment from Bangla’s essence.
Reflecting on his personal experiences, Minister Tuku shared his readiness to sacrifice his life during the Liberation War. He acknowledged that his survival and current position as a minister were tied to the country’s existence, emphasizing the need to nurture a profound love for the nation to uphold one’s integrity.
The event, chaired by Sirajganj Deputy Commissioner Aminul Islam, was attended by various dignitaries including Police Superintendent Saiful Islam Santu, Deputy Director of Local Government Mohammad Kamrul Islam, President of Sirajganj Chamber of Commerce and General Secretary of district BNP Saydur Rahman Bachchu, and freedom fighter Azizur Rahman Dulal.
