Actor Zaher Alvi has been identified as the primary suspect in a legal case related to the tragic death of his wife, Afra Ivnath Khan Ikra, who authorities believe died by suicide at their home in Mirpur DOHS, located in the capital city. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at their residence, with Alvi reportedly being away in Nepal for work at the time.
Ikra’s father filed a complaint, accusing Alvi of playing a role in his daughter’s suicide, as stated by police officials. An investigation has been initiated, and the subsequent actions will be based on the evidence collected during the inquiry.
Alvi took to Facebook to confirm the heartbreaking news of his wife’s passing, disclosing that she had taken her own life while he was away in Nepal for a filming commitment. Expressing deep distress, he questioned the reasons behind her actions, especially considering their child and family. He requested understanding and time to return to Dhaka, urging journalists and well-wishers for privacy and refraining from spreading misinformation.
The couple, who got married on November 9, 2010, but publicly revealed their marriage in 2024, have a child named Priyomaya. Law enforcement officials indicated that further information on the case cannot be divulged at this stage and that the legal measures to be taken next will be determined by the ongoing investigation.
It is essential to note that the allegations in this case are currently under scrutiny, and no charges have been substantiated in a court of law.
