The American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh, known as AmCham, recently marked the inauguration of its newly elected executive committee for the term 2026-2028. The event took place at the Grand Ballroom of Sheraton Dhaka in Banani.
Leading the newly appointed executive committee is Syed Mohammad Kamal, who serves as the president and brings with him 35 years of leadership experience in financial services, consumer goods, remittances, and digital payments. He has held significant positions at Western Union, Berger Paints Bangladesh, and ACI Limited. Kamal previously held roles as the vice-president of AmCham Bangladesh and served as a director of FICCI.
Ala Uddin Ahmad, the vice-president, has over 25 years of leadership experience in Asia. He is known for his strong advocacy for policies and his efforts in promoting trade and investment by aligning global investor interests with Bangladesh’s economic landscape. Ahmad, a fellow chartered accountant and member of CAANZ, has played crucial leadership roles within AmCham, FICCI, and BEF.
Reza Ur Rahman Mahmud, the treasurer, boasts more than 22 years of experience in finance, strategy, and public affairs. He has held leadership positions at DHL Express and Banglalink and has been instrumental in pioneering Bangladesh’s first smoke-free product manufacturing facility. Mahmud is a fellow chartered accountant, chartered secretary, and CMA (Australia).
Other members of the executive committee include Al-Mamun M Rashel from NATco Bangladesh Ltd., Habib Bhuiyan from Excelerate Energy Bangladesh, Sazzad Hossain from Avery Dennison Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and Ataur Rahim Chowdhury from ShopUp Bangladesh.
The newly appointed executive committee has committed to enhancing AmCham’s role in promoting trade, investment, and policy advocacy. Their objectives include strengthening economic ties between the US and Bangladesh, promoting Bangladesh as a desirable investment hub, reviving the US Trade Show, expanding membership and engagement, empowering sector-specific subcommittees, advocating for progressive policy changes, and creating a more accessible and influential chamber that provides enhanced value to the business community.
Brent T Christensen, the United States Ambassador to Bangladesh, expressed his confidence in the new leadership of AmCham and reiterated his support for their efforts in bolstering bilateral economic relations.
