“Bangladesh Clinches Thrilling 2-1 Series Win Over New Zealand”

Date:

Bangladesh emerged victorious with a 2-1 series win over New Zealand in Chattogram today, securing a 55-run triumph in the decisive third ODI. The Tigers achieved several remarkable feats during this series:

– Bangladesh’s 55-run win against New Zealand in Chattogram stands as their largest margin of victory by runs over the Black Caps in ODIs, surpassing their previous best of a 43-run win in Mirpur back in 2013.

– This marks only the third occasion that Bangladesh has clinched a three-match ODI series after losing the opening game. The previous instances occurred against Zimbabwe in 2009 and South Africa in 2015, both played on home turf.

– Najmul Hossain Shanto showcased his prowess by scoring 105 off 119 balls, securing his fourth ODI century. This innings ended his 20-match century drought, with his last century also achieved at the same venue in March 2024 against Sri Lanka. Notably, all four of Shanto’s ODI centuries have contributed to Bangladesh’s victories.

– Litton Das ended his 19-innings dry spell for an ODI fifty by scoring 76 off 91 balls. His last half-century was against India in Pune during the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. During this lean period, Litton reached the 40s on four occasions, with three of them in his last four innings before yesterday, along with four ducks.

– Left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman registered his sixth five-wicket haul in ODIs, placing him joint-second among left-arm pacers alongside Wasim Akram and Trent Boult. Mitchell Starc leads this category with nine, while Waqar Younis holds the overall ODI record with 13 five-wicket hauls.

– Bangladesh’s 2-1 series victory over New Zealand marks their third consecutive ODI series win, following triumphs against Pakistan and West Indies at home. This achievement breaks a streak of four consecutive series defeats, including whitewashes against West Indies and Afghanistan, and is their first such streak since August 2022.

– Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz joins an elite group including Habibul Bashar, Shakib Al Hasan, Mashrafe bin Mortaza, and Tamim Iqbal in leading Bangladesh to three consecutive ODI series victories. Mashrafe holds the record with six consecutive series wins from 2014 to 2016, while Tamim achieved five between 2021 and 2022.

– Nahid Rana clinched his second consecutive Player of the Series award, sharing the honor with Tanzid Tamim against Pakistan in March. In both series, Nahid bagged eight wickets, including a five-wicket haul in each. Shakib Al Hasan holds the record for most Player of the Series awards for Bangladesh with seven, followed by Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim with six each.
