Internet users in Bangladesh should brace for potential disruptions and reduced speeds from April 9 to April 13 due to scheduled maintenance on a key international submarine cable, as announced by Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC). The maintenance work pertains to repairing the SEA-ME-WE-5 submarine cable system, the country’s secondary cable linked via Kuakata. Termed as “S.1.5.1 Shunt Fault Repair,” the operation is overseen by the SEA-ME-WE-5 consortium and is set to take place from 10:00 PM on April 9 until 06:00 AM on April 13, according to BSCPLC. This maintenance will impact internet traffic circuits directed towards Singapore through the SEA-ME-WE-5 cable, potentially causing slower speeds or partial service disruptions, classified as “traffic affecting” by BSCPLC. Nonetheless, services utilizing the SEA-ME-WE-4 submarine cable system will continue unaffected during this period.
