Bangladesh is preparing to introduce new players to their T20I squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand from April 27 to May 2, as per sources from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Due to six players, including key bowler Mustafizur Rahman, participating in the 2026 Pakistan Super League and being unavailable for the series, there is an opportunity for other pacers to showcase their skills.
Batting coach Mohammad Ashraful expressed enthusiasm about nurturing emerging talent in the absence of regular players due to franchise commitments, injuries, or personal reasons.
He highlighted the shift in the board’s approach under Faruque Ahmed and Aminul Islam Bulbul, emphasizing the importance of allowing players to excel in franchise leagues even if it impacts national team selection.
Noting the need for squad depth, Ashraful mentioned the possibility of including players like Ripon Mondol or Abdul Gaffar Saqlain, who have shown promise in tournaments like the Asia Cup Rising Stars. Additionally, pacers Tanzim Sakib and Hasan Mahmud have recovered from their previous injuries, as confirmed by BCB medical officials.
The coach revealed that players across all formats will commence training on Friday, focusing initially on fitness and fielding before moving on to skill development. This structured approach aims to prepare the team effectively for the upcoming series against New Zealand.
