Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed confidence in his team’s pace bowling unit, suggesting they are slightly superior to Pakistan’s ahead of the upcoming Test series in Mirpur. Addressing the media before the series opener on May 8 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Shanto compared the two pace attacks while acknowledging Pakistan’s historical prowess in fast bowling.
Shanto emphasized the strength of Pakistan’s pace bowlers but noted the impressive performances of Bangladesh’s pacers in recent years, indicating a slight edge for his team’s pace attack. This assessment follows Bangladesh’s memorable Test series victory in Pakistan in 2024 during the World Test Championship cycle, where their seamers played a pivotal role by claiming 21 wickets collectively.
In contrast, Pakistan’s frontline bowlers, including Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mir Hamza, and Mohammad Ali, managed only 10 wickets in that series, underscoring Bangladesh’s bowling impact. The consistent performance of Bangladesh’s pacers in various conditions, both at home and abroad, has enhanced the team’s overall balance, according to Shanto.
The skipper highlighted the improvement in the pacers’ skills, providing him with confidence as a captain. He emphasized the importance of the batsmen posting substantial first-innings totals and stressed the significance of a balanced combination of pace and spin for their success.
Nahid Rana, a promising young fast bowler known for his extreme pace nearing 150 km/h, is a focal point in Bangladesh’s bowling arsenal. Shanto praised Rana’s dedication and anticipated his peak performance in the upcoming series, citing the value of having a genuinely quick bowler in the squad.
