Royal Scandal: King’s Brother Released Amid Misconduct Probe

Date:

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the younger brother of King Charles, was released from police custody on Thursday evening following his arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office for allegedly sending confidential government documents to Jeffrey Epstein. The 66-year-old Mountbatten-Windsor was questioned by Thames Valley Police detectives throughout the day. The arrest of the eighth in line to the throne is a rare occurrence in modern times, drawing deep concern from King Charles, who expressed full support for the authorities’ actions.

After leaving a police station in Aylsham, eastern England, Mountbatten-Windsor, visibly shaken, was met by photographers and television crews. Thames Valley Police later confirmed that he had been released under investigation. Despite Buckingham Palace being unaware of the arrest beforehand, King Charles emphasized that the law should be upheld, while affirming his family’s commitment to public service.

Mountbatten-Windsor, Queen Elizabeth’s second son, has consistently denied any wrongdoing related to Epstein, expressing regret over their association. Following the release of documents by the US government concerning Epstein, it was revealed that Mountbatten-Windsor had shared reports on his official trips with Epstein, leading to his resignation from his trade envoy role in 2011.

The arrest marks a significant downfall for Mountbatten-Windsor, who previously relinquished his royal duties in 2019 due to ties with Epstein. Stripped of titles and honors by his older brother in October amid further revelations, Mountbatten-Windsor is now facing allegations of misconduct in public office, which carries severe penalties.

In a separate development, Mountbatten-Windsor settled a civil lawsuit with Virginia Giuffre in the US in 2022, unrelated to the current police investigation. The Giuffre family welcomed the legal actions against Mountbatten-Windsor, emphasizing equality under the law. US President Donald Trump expressed disappointment over the situation, highlighting the impact on the royal family.

If charged, Mountbatten-Windsor would join a select group of British royals facing criminal accusations. Additional accusations of involvement in human trafficking and calls for US congressional testimonies add to the mounting legal challenges facing Mountbatten-Windsor, as authorities continue to investigate the unfolding case.
