The University Grants Commission (UGC) in Bangladesh has mandated that both public and private universities offer complimentary Wi-Fi access throughout their campuses promptly. This directive comes following a recent announcement, stating that universities must establish free Wi-Fi connectivity within 60 working days, initially focusing on student-centered areas such as libraries, common rooms, and cafeterias. Technical assistance for this undertaking will be provided by the Bangladesh Research and Education Network (bdREN).
The decision was finalized during a meeting conducted at the UGC’s headquarters on March 25. The UGC disclosed that the plan will gradually extend to encompass residential halls and various educational and research facilities in subsequent phases.
