Shamsunnahar Sr, the seasoned left-back of the Bangladesh team, labeled the upcoming SAFF Women’s Championship match against India as a tightly contested encounter, emphasizing that the side which capitalizes on scoring opportunities will emerge victorious.
The defending champions, Bangladesh, and the five-time champions, India, are tied on points in Group B following their respective wins against Maldives. Despite this, India currently holds the top spot in the group due to a superior goal difference of (+9).
To clinch the top spot in Group B and secure a potentially easier opponent in the semifinals, Bangladesh must secure a decisive victory over India. Both teams have already secured their places in the semifinals by defeating Maldives.
Reflecting on their attacking strategy in the previous match against Maldives, Shamsunnahar shared insights with the media at Planet Hollywood Beach Resort in Goa, stating, “Our approach against Maldives was distinct as we had the liberty to push forward given their style of play. However, against India, we anticipate a more challenging scenario where we won’t have the same offensive freedom.”
“Given the pressure on both teams, it will be a closely contested encounter. India is a formidable opponent, and the team that seizes the opportunities presented will have the upper hand,” she added.
While hinting at potential lineup changes for the India match, the experienced defender affirmed Bangladesh’s determination to pursue victory relentlessly.
“Our aim is to secure a win and garner three crucial points from the match against India,” she remarked.
In terms of game strategy against India, Shamsunnahar highlighted Bangladesh’s familiarity with their counterparts and their tactics.
“Having faced India numerous times, we have gained a good understanding of their style of play. They often utilize the wings, and our strategy will focus on nullifying their wide attacks to limit their scoring opportunities,” she explained.
Expressing the significance of triumphing over India, the defender emphasized the immense joy it brings to both the players and the entire nation of Bangladesh.
“Victory against India holds a special place for us, bringing immense happiness not just to the team but to the entire nation. It is a moment of pride for Bangladesh, making it a crucial objective for us,” she expressed.
