Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman affirmed today that BNP is committed to implementing the July Charter and cautioned against any efforts to disrupt the government’s public welfare initiatives, stressing that such attempts would be met with public resistance.
Speaking at a public gathering held at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University campus in Tangail, Tarique emphasized the importance of vigilance and caution in light of past authoritarian regimes.
He highlighted that BNP, entrusted by the people to govern the country, had promptly signed the July Charter alongside other parties. Tarique noted the initial hesitance of Jamaat-e-Islami and NCP, now part of the opposition, in signing the charter, emphasizing that BNP took the lead in endorsing it.
Reiterating BNP’s unwavering commitment to the July Charter, Tarique underscored that the party would uphold its obligations without deviation. He issued a stern warning against any attempts to obstruct BNP’s programs, such as canal excavation and the distribution of family and farmers’ cards, emphasizing that such actions would be met with popular resistance.
Tarique also pointed out BNP’s proactive stance on reforms, citing the party’s early proposals in 2016 under Khaleda Zia’s leadership and subsequent comprehensive reform plans in 2023. He highlighted the alignment between BNP’s reform proposals and those put forth by reform commissions during the Yunus government, emphasizing a significant overlap of around 85%.
Emphasizing the importance of democratic discourse, Tarique acknowledged the presence of differing opinions but stressed the need for their resolution through constructive dialogue. He urged open discussions where each party presents their viewpoints for consideration and mutual understanding.
Reflecting on the significance of Bangladesh as the sole homeland, Tarique emphasized the collective responsibility of its citizens in shaping the nation’s future. He called for unity and collaboration in building a prosperous and sought-after Bangladesh, emphasizing the shared commitment to the country’s progress and well-being.
