Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman expressed the significance of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman’s recent visit to his residence, labeling it as a milestone in national politics. Emphasizing Jamaat-e-Islami’s dedication within the 11-party alliance, Shafiqur reiterated their aim to establish a prosperous, stable, and contemporary state grounded in democratic principles and constitutional governance.
During the evening meeting at the Bashundhara residence, BNP Chairman Tarique was accompanied by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam. Shafiqur lauded Tarique’s potential future role as Bangladesh’s prime minister, hailing his visit as a pivotal moment in national politics, aspiring for a Bangladesh free from authoritarianism, sovereign, and built on principles of justice and equity.
Tarique reportedly assured Shafiqur of proactive steps to prevent post-election violence and protect opposition members and minority groups from attacks, a pledge that was warmly received. Shafiqur stressed the importance of ensuring citizens’ safety and security, asserting Jamaat’s willingness to collaborate with the government on matters of national importance while maintaining their role as a principled opposition, aiming for constructive engagement rather than conflict.
Highlighting the need for a parliament that upholds justice, citizen rights, and fosters progress, Shafiqur underlined the public’s expectation for a legislative body that prioritizes stability and development.
