Captain Zakir Hasan showcased an outstanding performance by scoring a brilliant century to lead Bangladesh Emerging Team to an 85-run victory over Zimbabwe ‘A’ in the first one-day match of the series held at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura. Zakir’s impressive innings of 119 runs off 97 balls, including nine boundaries and five maximums, set the tone for Bangladesh’s total of 364 before their innings came to a close.
Iftakhar Hossain Ifti contributed significantly with a well-played 70 off 58 deliveries, while Samiun Basir Ratul added quick runs towards the end with a rapid 41 off just 18 balls. Zimbabwe ‘A’ bowler Ernest Masuku stood out with figures of 3-70, supported by Antum Naqvi and Michael Frost who both secured two wickets each.
The visitors started steadily with Innocent Kaia and Matthew Campbell forming a 60-run opening partnership. However, Bangladesh’s bowlers struck at regular intervals, limiting Zimbabwe ‘A’ to 116-5 in the 25th over. Despite a valiant effort from Wessly Madhevere, who scored a remarkable 116 off 93 balls, Zimbabwe ‘A’ could not match the required run rate and were eventually bowled out for 279 in 48.5 overs.
Pacer Rohan Ud Dowla and left-arm spinner Ratul were instrumental with the ball for Bangladesh, claiming three wickets each. Rohan ended with figures of 3-72, while Ratul finished with 3-52. Aliss Al Islam also contributed with two wickets to secure the victory for Bangladesh.
The next match of the series is scheduled to take place at the same venue on Wednesday.
