Tragedy struck on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila today as a bus overturned near a filling station, resulting in the death of two passengers and injuring at least 11 others, according to officials.
The incident took place close to the CCBL filling station in Suadi village around 1:00pm.
Authorities mentioned that the identities of the two deceased individuals, believed to be in the age range of 28 to 35, were not immediately ascertainable.
Sentu Hawlader, a firefighter from the Bhanga Fire Service, reported that the bus, part of the Narail Express line, was en route from Dhaka to Narail with a full passenger load.
Based on eyewitnesses’ accounts, he stated that the bus was traveling at a high speed and toppled over while negotiating a sharp left turn from the highway towards the filling station.
“Unfortunately, two passengers lost their lives at the scene. The injured individuals were promptly rescued and transported to the Bhanga Upazila Health Complex,” he added.
Md Helal Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of the Bhanga Highway Police, disclosed that steps were being taken to identify the deceased victims.
“As they did not have any form of identification on them, it might take some time to establish their identities,” he explained.
The police have seized the bus involved in the accident and moved it to the highway police station for further investigation.
