Bayern Munich Clinch 35th Bundesliga Title

Date:

Harry Kane netted his 32nd goal of the season as Bayern Munich comfortably defeated Stuttgart 4-2 at home, securing their 35th Bundesliga title.

Raphael Guerreiro, Nicolas Jackson, and Alphonso Davies also found the back of the net, while Chris Fuehrich and Chema Andres scored for the visiting team.

A 2-1 loss for Borussia Dortmund against Hoffenheim on Saturday, their second consecutive defeat, paved the way for Bayern to clinch the title with a home victory, needing just a point with four games remaining.

In preparation for the upcoming German Cup semi-final against Bayer Leverkusen, Coach Vincent Kompany opted to rest key players such as Kane, Michael Olise, Manuel Neuer, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Dayot Upamecano, and Jonathan Tah, starting them on the bench.

Despite falling behind to Fuehrich’s goal in the 21st minute, Bayern swiftly responded with three goals in a span of seven minutes.

Assisted by Jamal Musiala, Guerreiro opened the scoring, followed by quick goals from Jackson and Davies, orchestrated by Luis Diaz, giving Bayern a comfortable lead by halftime.

Kane added another goal early in the second half, securing yet another Bundesliga title for his team.

With the victory sealed, Bayern eased off, with ‘2026 Champions’ t-shirts brought to the sidelines in anticipation of the title celebrations.

Andres managed to pull one back for Stuttgart late in the game, but Bayern was in control, focusing on the impending title festivities.

Bayern’s dominance in German football was once again highlighted by their latest title triumph, marking their 13th Bundesliga win in the last 14 seasons and their 35th league title overall, a record unmatched by any other team.

Scoring a record-breaking 109 goals this season, Bayern’s performance has been outstanding, surpassing the previous record set in 1971-72 by eight goals with four matches left to play.

Currently boasting 79 points and a remarkable goal difference of 80, Bayern is on course to potentially surpass the historic record of 91 points achieved by their 2012-13 treble-winning team if they win their remaining games.

Looking at individual achievements, Kane, who reached 50 goals in all competitions this season, is closing in on Robert Lewandowski’s single-season record of 41 goals, having scored 32 goals in 27 appearances so far.

Meanwhile, Michael Olise is three assists away from equaling Thomas Mueller’s all-time assist record set in the 2019-20 season.

In another match on Sunday, Freiburg defeated Heidenheim 2-1 at home, with Maximilian Eggestein scoring the winning goal to propel his team above Eintracht Frankfurt into seventh place.

Heidenheim, currently at the bottom of the table, are seven points adrift of the relegation play-off spot and 11 points away from safety with just four games left in the season.

Later in the day, Borussia Moenchengladbach will face Mainz in another Bundesliga fixture.
